Goofy walking stick

Finally finished the walking stick of Goofy that I have been putting off for months, and sweating bullets about. I have just had a mental block about how to go about carving this. I have looked at multiple pictures and made a trial practice piece ( which looks like Junior) . I finished carving him this weekend and painted it up on Monday. took some pictures of it which C. took out to work and the the man who wanted it is thrilled with it. he is taking the pictures home tonight to show his wife and wants C. to bring it out to work tomorrow. This is how it turned out.I am still not that happy with it ,but if the client is happy than I am happy.

Nap time.

Thursday, my daughter in law called and wanted me to go with her to the farmers market in town. I needed to go grocery shopping first, then we went to the market and picked up a few veges and cherries. there were Raspberries ,$4.00 for a small pint or @16 for a flat of 6 pints. ( yesterday I picked three large dutch ovens full of berries and there is that many more today to pick)
then we came home and put the food away ate lunch , then we played out in the pool for a couple of hours. We finally got GS #4 out and dried off then came in the house for awhile. We turned on the TV for a few minutes ( they had just announced Michael Jackson's death) ,when I noticed that it had gotten really quiet. Looked over and "C." had fallen asleep, Sadie (my dog ) was asleep and Grandson had fallen asleep on top of Sadie. They slept like this for about 40 min. Sadie didn't move a muscle the whole time. I finally got a blanket and put on them so he wouldn't get cold. I didn't have the heart to move him.

What a good dog!!

the pool is open for business

I switched a couple of days at work this week with a co-worker, she wanted the weekend off so I took Wednesday and Thursday off this week. Wed. I spent the day finishing up the viking project, working on a sample "goofy"stick , and working in the yard. Decided to take a few hours to put up the little pool. Son #1 came by and his wife and grandchild (#4) came by and helped me to put it up. then we played in it for a while. After they left I worked in the garden pulling weeds and picked raspberries for over an hour. Ended up with a bit of a sunburn. you would think I would learn.

Paintings

This weekend I made up some paintings for son #2 and his girlfriend. They have been wanting me to paint the walls in the nursery. Seeing as I had painted on D.'s walls once I should do it for them as well. The past tow weeks have been really busy for me and I just haven't made it over there to do it yet, and the more I thought about it the more I felt like I should do them on canvasses so they can take them with them if they move or remodel or whatever. Saturday there was a Shower for L. so I painted these up on Friday night and finished them up Saturday morning... I really thought they turned out well. Son came over in the morning and gave his stamp of approval. L. seemed really pleased with them later at the Shower.
The canvasses are 20x20, 16x20, and 12x20. what do you think.

weekend viking projects

Last week my husband was helping with a friends Eagle court of honor and borrowed some things from a co-worker. He does intarsia and has done a beautiful eagle on an arch ,plus all the scout ranks mounted on a fence. Really nice work and we were thrilled he let us borrow it... a couple of years ago he was at a retirement party for another co-worker where I had made a walking stick for. We got talking and he asked me about this viking that he had started and got stuck on...(Maybe sometime I could help him with it...) well when my husband came home with the court of honor stuff this was sent home with him as well...
I had a free weekend so worked on this. started out with a small 6 inch version ( the 5 min. method) ,then worked on his the rest of the weekend.
This is what it started out as. by the way this is made of hickory on a 7 ft pole. not the easiest to work with. I had to use the power carver and the dremel to work on it. finished it off with a little bit of woodburning. sounds like he is going to finish it up the rest of the way himself.
this is how it turned out when I got done.

Misc. rondezvous stuff

The girls did some power carving demonstrations,
There was a class on a sitting mouse,
Gil Drake was there sharping peoples knifes and he taught an Indian class in the afternoon.
Pat taught a class on wood burning gourds, and general wood burning.
There were a couple gals there doing there own thing, one was spinning wool and the other two were making pine needle baskets...(I could so get into that) ,
Ron Lunde was there with Cascade carving supplies ,so I admit I bought a couple of books I have been wanting.
Dinner was served, sponsored by the club, then they had the raffle.

Good time was had by all, good to get away for a couple of days and just Play, and renew old friendships and make new ones.

Find your local rendezvous and or start your own "spit and whittle" with some friends and keep carving.
