Nap time.

Thursday, my daughter in law called and wanted me to go with her to the farmers market in town. I needed to go grocery shopping first, then we went to the market and picked up a few veges and cherries. there were Raspberries ,$4.00 for a small pint or @16 for a flat of 6 pints. ( yesterday I picked three large dutch ovens full of berries and there is that many more today to pick)
then we came home and put the food away ate lunch , then we played out in the pool for a couple of hours. We finally got GS #4 out and dried off then came in the house for awhile. We turned on the TV for a few minutes ( they had just announced Michael Jackson's death) ,when I noticed that it had gotten really quiet. Looked over and "C." had fallen asleep, Sadie (my dog ) was asleep and Grandson had fallen asleep on top of Sadie. They slept like this for about 40 min. Sadie didn't move a muscle the whole time. I finally got a blanket and put on them so he wouldn't get cold. I didn't have the heart to move him.

What a good dog!!

the pool is open for business

I switched a couple of days at work this week with a co-worker, she wanted the weekend off so I took Wednesday and Thursday off this week. Wed. I spent the day finishing up the viking project, working on a sample "goofy"stick , and working in the yard. Decided to take a few hours to put up the little pool. Son #1 came by and his wife and grandchild (#4) came by and helped me to put it up. then we played in it for a while. After they left I worked in the garden pulling weeds and picked raspberries for over an hour. Ended up with a bit of a sunburn. you would think I would learn.

Paintings

This weekend I made up some paintings for son #2 and his girlfriend. They have been wanting me to paint the walls in the nursery. Seeing as I had painted on D.'s walls once I should do it for them as well. The past tow weeks have been really busy for me and I just haven't made it over there to do it yet, and the more I thought about it the more I felt like I should do them on canvasses so they can take them with them if they move or remodel or whatever. Saturday there was a Shower for L. so I painted these up on Friday night and finished them up Saturday morning... I really thought they turned out well. Son came over in the morning and gave his stamp of approval. L. seemed really pleased with them later at the Shower.
The canvasses are 20x20, 16x20, and 12x20. what do you think.

weekend viking projects

Last week my husband was helping with a friends Eagle court of honor and borrowed some things from a co-worker. He does intarsia and has done a beautiful eagle on an arch ,plus all the scout ranks mounted on a fence. Really nice work and we were thrilled he let us borrow it... a couple of years ago he was at a retirement party for another co-worker where I had made a walking stick for. We got talking and he asked me about this viking that he had started and got stuck on...(Maybe sometime I could help him with it...) well when my husband came home with the court of honor stuff this was sent home with him as well...
I had a free weekend so worked on this. started out with a small 6 inch version ( the 5 min. method) ,then worked on his the rest of the weekend.
This is what it started out as. by the way this is made of hickory on a 7 ft pole. not the easiest to work with. I had to use the power carver and the dremel to work on it. finished it off with a little bit of woodburning. sounds like he is going to finish it up the rest of the way himself.
this is how it turned out when I got done.

Misc. rondezvous stuff

The girls did some power carving demonstrations,
There was a class on a sitting mouse,
Gil Drake was there sharping peoples knifes and he taught an Indian class in the afternoon.
Pat taught a class on wood burning gourds, and general wood burning.
There were a couple gals there doing there own thing, one was spinning wool and the other two were making pine needle baskets...(I could so get into that) ,
Ron Lunde was there with Cascade carving supplies ,so I admit I bought a couple of books I have been wanting.
Dinner was served, sponsored by the club, then they had the raffle.

Good time was had by all, good to get away for a couple of days and just Play, and renew old friendships and make new ones.

Find your local rendezvous and or start your own "spit and whittle" with some friends and keep carving.

Part 2--Contiued

the afternoon class that I took was a "hole in one" ,ball in a cage project. I have never done this before so thought I would give it a try. We had just been given the cutout of the wood and started marking it out when Son #1 stopped by with some lunch . he was asking what we were going to work on . I told him I was going to carve this ball in a cage that there was a ball in there that you have to carve out, he picked up the block and shook it by his ear and said that he thought I got a dud, He couldn't hear a ball rattle in there. ( sometimes I wonder about that boy...)

...so anyway, worked on this the rest of the afternoon . fun project. I feel like I can finally say that
"I am a woodcarver" . It surprises me how many people who find out I carve the first thing they ask is if I have carved a chain , or a ball in a cage...when I say no, they say, "Oh" with great disappointment. ( seems as though I didn't measure up. ) but now I have finally arrived. I am sure that these people who ask have fond memories of someone who carved those things at a camp they were at. I just might have to carved some more of these.

Part 2

Saturday- June 6 : went to the the fairgrounds, not knowing class to take, so I brought some sticks to work on in case there wasn't anything to do. Well "Dutch" talked me into entering a yam carving contest. We were given a paper sack with a dowel, sandpaper and a plastic knife to work with. We picked out the yam of our choice and proceeded to carve. Oh how fun. the camaraderie and the banter was great. and these carve so nice, much easier than carving with soap. This would be a great project to do with kids, or a ward camp out, ect... afterwards they were put on a table to be voted on. Mine won (yea) .He was even wounded. after I got it carved I dropped it and he broke in half so I took the dowel and stuck the two parts together.

Broke for lunch: This was provided by Dutch who made up some taco's in his dutch ovens. Yum!

Woodcarving Rondezvous Report. (part 1)

We got to the Fairgrounds around 11 am . (C. had an eye appointment that morning) ,so we stopped by to see what the afternoon classes were going to be. We came home for lunch ,then I went back for the afternoon and took a class taught by Dave Disselbrett. One of the projects he was teaching was a small snowman with a long hat. He tossed it to me in the morning to work on. So I worked on that the next few hours. instead of making a snowman I turned the piece and worked on the corner and put a face in it. That night I hurried home after dinner and painted it up real quick, then brought it back on Saturday.

Eagle carving

wanted a quick project . Did this the other night and painted it last night.
I was thinking of giving it to our friends son who is getting his eagle this Sunday night.
I can never get away from the feeling that people think this stuff if so lame and cheap. oh well. just me rambling on.

Just had a bowl full of strawberries for breakfast out of our garden.
So good. They always seem so much better than what you get in the store.
